The course was designed by the famous designed H S Colt, who
has designed over 300 courses around the world. Included
are the famous links of Formby, Gullane, Murfield and the
Royal Troon with further afield designs of Royal Dublin and
Royal Melbourne. In October 1901 Harry Vardon and the
then Open Champion James Braid played over Sandwell Park Golf
Club and when asked about their opinion of the course both
expressed "that its the best inland links they have ever
played on".
The exclusive and picturesque course wanders over wooded heath
land and is generally recognised to be a challenge to the most
experienced of golfers, with its greens renowned for their
borrows and speed. The course measures 6468 yards, with
a par of 71 and a SSS of 73 off the back tees.
